See Ya Later 2014! New Year's Nail Art with MAC, O.P.I and Ciaté

Hey guys, I hope you all had a happy Christmas, Hannukah or just enjoyed a bit of time off but now we've come to the end of 2014.  It's been a good year, not much happened really but I started my PhD so that's kind of big.  For the blog, I hope 2015 will bring more diversity to it and more regular posts.  I really want to talk more about film on here so expect a review or two in the next few weeks but don't worry, I'll do some nail art to tie it all together :)  Now, onto my New Year's nail art!  I've used some polishes I got for Christmas (I didn't get many!) for this, MAC Tropical and Ciaté Sass Pot, as well as my favourite OPI gold polish, Goldeneye.

MAC Tropical, OPI Goldeneye, Ciaté Sass Pot, Essie Buy Me a Cameo and Barry M Black

Instead of writing 2015, I went for the Roman numerals MMXV 'cos I'm classy like that LOL (or straight lines are easier to do).  I put together a .gif so you can see the colour shift a bit better but these two glitters are STUNNING together!

Well I hope you've all liked this post and here's to a Happy new Year!  Let me know in the comments below how you feel about me talking about film more on the blog, will you read the posts?  Be sure to like, subscribe and follow me by the sites below, until next time :D

Frozen Inspired Nail Art with Nail Geek Dreams*, Clear Skies* and Live Fearless*

Now, I could hardly let Christmas go past without posting some Frozen inspired nails and since I had a few blue shades from Makeup Revolution's Nail Geek 'Cool'* range to review, it couldn't be more perfect.  The look is inspired by the Nordic detailing found in the interior of Arendelle Castle as well as the costumes worn by both Elsa and Anna but of course the colour scheme lends itself more to Elsa's character.  I popped a bit of holographic top coat on the base shade, Dreams, to give it a bit of frostiness but it is a creme polish jsyk but here's the nail art!

Nail Geek Dreams* (Baby Blue), Clear Skies* (Periwinkle Blue) and Live Fearless* (Denim Blue)

The polishes were very much like the previous Nail Geek shades I've reviewed, a bit thick but good quality for the cheap price point.

So it's nearly Christmas, are you all sorted yet?  I hope you like the nail art and be sure to follow, subscribe and like the sites below, until next time :)

Makeup Revolution Nail Geek Sophisticats Collection*

Hey guys, today I'm bringing you swatches from Makeup Revolution Nail Geek The Sophisticats collection swatches and reviews.  I chose this collection for review because I thought the shades were a little different than your regular Safe for Work polishes so let's pop on under the cut for some photos and my thoughts on the polishes.

Mistletoe Nail Art with Barry M Chai

This is one of those ideas that just wouldn't leave my head until I did it!  I based the design around a White Stuff jumper and just thought the overall look was quite cute, I also really wanted to use Barry M Chai FINALLY

Barry M Chai, Coconut, Passionfruit, Raspberry Key Lime and O.P.I Greenwich Village

So I used the dry brush technique to add a bit of dimension to the background and used my detailing brush for all the mistletoe and bow detailing, then a dotter for the berries.  I love the effect of the shadows in this nail art so I'm glad I spent the extra time to do that detail.

So I'm keeping this post short and sweet!  I hope you like this post and aren't getting sick of festive manicures yet because there are plenty more to come LOL!  Make sure you follow, subscribe and like the sites below, until next time :-)

Makeup Revolution Nail Geek in Peppermint* and Inbetween*

So the budget makeup brand everyone's been talking about lately is Makeup Revolution.  Launched earlier this year, they've taken the world by storm and they recently launched their new Nail Geek range, 45 nail colours to suit any mood at the very low price of £1.49.  I was contacted by Makeup Revolution to review some of these polishes, I've 10 to show you so here are the first two in the form of some seasonal nail art!

Peppermint* is obviously the mint green base colour on the nail.  I've two coats of it on the nails above, sealed in with top coat and I did this kind of brushstroke art around the edges using Inbetween*, a nice teal shade, and my go-to white polish.

The polishes are quite thick so you have to be careful with application because it you put on thicker coats, they might not level out without a good top coat.  The polish has good pigmentation and I really like the colour.  The brush is your standard width (although it's described as wide on the website, it's not OPI or Essie wide) and you can cover your nail in three strokes.  For £1.49, you get 12ml which is more than Barry M and a few ml short of OPI.  You get a lot for your money with Nail Geek polishes so I'd recommend checking out the collections to get the most out of your order and Peppermint and Inbetween are from the Cool Nails collection and I'll be showcasing the other shades soon, as well as another collection!

So look out for my other Nail Geek posts in the coming weeks!  Nail Geek polishes are £1.45 and you can buy them from Makeup Revolution's website and I think you can get them at concession stands as well but don't quote me on that LOL

Be sure to like, subscribe and follow me on the sites below, I just hit 3,000 followers on tumblr so a big THANK YOU for those who follow me there and sure if you're not already, help me reach the next milestone :p

Alexa Chung for Nails Inc - Alexa Lace

I'm one of those many people who just look at Alexa Chung and think 'how are you so cool?'.  From her days on Popworld to now, I've loved her style and dry wit so of course when she was announced as the new face of Nails Inc AND was collaborating on some cool new effect top coats and polishes, I had to get in on that action!  Luckily, I was a runner up in the Yoomoo Nail Art competition and one of the prizes was a voucher for a Nails Inc Express mani and since I like to do my own nails, I used the voucher to buy the Alexa Lace polish, as well as the beautiful sheer pink polish I layered it on top of, now, onto pictures!

Since the glitter pieces aren't metallic, they're slightly pearlescent red so it is very wearable and with the different shaped pieces, you'll never have the same look twice.  I've layered two coats of Alexa Lace on top of each other to show you the density of the polish.  You will need to move the pieces about a bit to get even coverage but that's the case with most glitter top coats.

It's called Alexa Lace for a reason and I think when layered with a nude shade like it is here, it's very delicate and perfect for a lady but I think on top of a black or darker colour, it would look fabulous as well.  I'd have loved some flower shaped pieces as well to complete the lace look but, maybe next time!

Will you be picking up any of the Alexa Chung for Nails Inc polishes?  Alexa Lace is £15 and can be picked up on their website and in Nails Inc salons nationwide.
